Correction: Dean Baker Not So Bad!

It looks like I’ve been unfair to Dean Baker. Thanks to Chris Hayes, I see that he’s generally been quite good on promoting skilled immigration as a means of lower national inequality. For example:

  • Another reason why efforts to increase skilled migration relative to unskilled migration are silly if done for reasons of equality is that while such efforts decrease national inequality, they increase international inequality. Note that this has nothing to do with whether "brain drain" is good, bad, or neutral for the sending country; even if brain drain happens to be good for the sending country, skilled migration from poor countries to rich countries still increases international inequality.
