Will Wilkinson: The Saint Louis Hegelians, Adam-ondi-Ahman, and the Metaphysically Essential Center of the United States of America

No comments? I'll comment. Funny and informative and interesting and balanced about the complexity that is flyover country and probably the rest of America. Practical idealism and religious eccentricity, you caught a whole lot in this post, Will, and the best piece I read today. Thank you.

Lived my whole life on a line from Chicago to Dallas and driven the route, both interstates and backroads maybe fifty times. Gone East-West maybe a dozen. Without intending offense, Missouri has always seemed the spookiest, most mysterious of states, not necessarily dangerous, but ancient and deep. Probably just me, but I have always driven a little faster passing thru.

Nice post! Very interesting theory. I'm going to have to disagree with something though. KC is the most greatest city in MO. If for no other reason than that it is a LOT closer to Lawrence, KS. And Lawrence is THE bomb.

It really, really bothers me that Kansas City is in MO! Just don't make no sense!

    Craig,

Basically, part of it is in Kansas...Does that make you feel any better?

"... St. Louis is destined by the logic of history to be the greatest city of all the world!"
I don't know about that, but they do have the greatest baseball team in the world! Go Cards!

I don't see how Missouri can be so important. Everyone knows that Georgia is the real crux of civilization. While we may seem backwards at times, we are strong and our destiny awaits. In the words of so many drunken racists, "the South will rise again." You know, rise to our former enlightenment and prestige...don't you remember?

    Take that, Matt (and Will).
